John Doyle presented with Theo van Dort Award from BASDA at 2008 Software Satisfaction Awards

The Theo van Dort Award is an annual award and is named in honour of BASDA co-founder Theo van Dort, who sadly lost his battle with cancer in 2005. This was one of 20 awards presented at the Business Software Satisfaction Awards on 30th October, organised by Sift Media with BASDA's support and attended by over 300 representatives from the software industry.

The 2008 Theo van Dort Award was presented to the person who has done the most to foster collaboration within the industry and went to the European Commission's John Doyle for his efforts to get software developers to work on monitoring, reporting and management tools for carbon emissions.

Jairo Rojas, BASDA Director General comments, ' John has been instrumental in helping us to drive our Green initiative by educating our members on the real issues to be faced by industry in achieving the 2020 targets for reducing carbon emissions and by getting our voice heard within the EC'.

BASDA's Green Charter is the latest in a long line of BASDA initiatives which seek to bring clarity and simplicity for both software vendors and their customers.

“The European Commission has acknowledged the important part that business software providers must play. They are the catalysts to enable all sectors of the economy to become more carbon efficient without stifling growth. ICT must be used in innovative ways. We are pleased to be working closely with BASDA and applaud this initiative,” comments John Doyle, sustainable development policy co-ordinator of the EU Information Society. 'Why we welcome this wonderful initiative from BASDA is that no one measures it. There is a Carbon Disclosures Report, but it's voluntary and 100 out of the FTSE 250 didn't fill out the form.'

About the Software Satisfaction Awards:

The Sift Media Software Satisfaction Awards, in association with BASDA, were established in 2006 to reward high standards from software application providers serving UK businesses.

This year the Awards covered 19 categories across the business disciplines of: accounting & finance; human resources; training; CRM; and customer management.

The Awards are based on the views of genuine buyers and end-users of business software applications - not those of a judging panel. This means that the Awards act as a valuable guide to anyone taking the decision to purchase new business software applications.
