Lobbying on e-Invoicing

Date posted:
01/10/2010

Tim Cole, chair of the BASDA e-Biz SIG, attended a meeting of a new government group on e-Invoicing on 15th September, where he presented a BASDA positioning paper on 'Support for the Efficiency Program'.  The new Coalition Government is withdrawing support from SITPRO, so this new group provides a new avenue for lobbying on e-Business.

The full BASDA paper may be viewed on the e-Biz SIG Forum for members, but here is a synopsis:

"All public sector organisations need to act quickly to reduce costs whilst ensuring continuity and quality of service. Extending the use of electronic trading and processing throughout the sector would deliver considerable savings.

This document will show that virtually all public sector organisations have heavily invested in IT systems that are already capable of supporting electronic trading, and therefore they should be able to achieve efficiency gains, service improvements and cost savings with a minimum of investment.

BASDA recommends that it is therefore now time for a Government mandate to maximise use of, and to build upon this existing investment.  A mandated approach to electronic trading will enable the Government to achieve its cost saving targets, strengthen the wider economy and implement solutions that also support its fair payment objectives."
