BASDA to develop a scheme of application software accreditation to give assurance to users that their business applications have been designed to help them comply with the UK Data Protection Act.

BASDA responds to Migration Advisory Committee consultation proposals from the Home secretary to apply new controls in respect of requests for visas for "Tier Two" applicants (non-EU nationals in the context of an intra-corporate transfer (ICT)) into the UK. Any move to restrict ICT Tier 2 permits to only those jobs on the shortage occupations list will have a negative impact on the UK economy and will be detrimental to the IT Industry’s ability to do business.

Reflecting the growth in online business applications, a number of BASDA members have set up a Cloud special interest group (SIG) with a view to raising the profile of business Cloud computing applications, exploring ideas around standards and best practice and producing deliverables that benefit both members, partners and end users.

As the chair of software trade body BASDA's HR and payroll special interest group, Andrew Dove of PAYE-IT has liaised for many months with HMRC over the transition to the new online filing regime. In his view, the department has had so much on its hands trying to finalise the format of the new forms that it has not been had time to publicise the arrival of plain paper, black-and-white P45 printouts.
