The Making Tax Digital SIG is currently engaging with:

BASDA is pleased to have helped influence the delay in implementation for Making Tax Digital with regard to most taxes.  The focus shifted to Making Tax Digital for VAT which was made mandatory for the majority of businesses in April 2019.  BASDA is still working with HMRC to continuously improve the processes for MTD for VAT and help it deliver on its API first strategy for which BASDA is completely aligned with.  The focus for BASDA will now turn to the roll out of MTD for other taxes, starting with personal tax.  Despite the delayed implementation date from HMRC, BASDA are committed to making sure that lessons are learnt from MTD For VAT and will continue to lobby HMRC to ensure that the roll out is suitable for businesses and software developers alike.

Who should get involved

All accounting and book-keeping software developers should get involved.  From April 2019, HMRC will expect most VAT Returns to be submitted directly from this software rather than being input on the current HMRC portal.  By becoming involved with this BASDA SIG, members can ensure that they are kept informed of emerging requirements and can help influence HRMC decisions.
