When did you join BASDA?

What was the reason for joining BASDA?
We joined BASDA to play a more active part in the conversations shaping UK business software. The businesses and accounting professionals we support need practical, reliable tools, and we want their everyday experiences to help inform industry discussions. Membership gives us an opportunity to share what we learn from customers, exchange ideas with fellow developers and contribute to a collective voice on the issues that affect us all.
What value do you hope BASDA will bring to your business?
We’re looking forward to learning from other members and gaining a clearer view of the changes ahead. Earlier insight into regulatory and technical developments would help us plan our products and prepare customers with confidence. We also welcome the chance to build relationships with people facing similar challenges. We hope to contribute our own experience, particularly around supporting smaller businesses and delivering approachable, personal customer service.
Are there any particular topics that BASDA is championing that you are particularly interested in and why?
Payroll and pensions are especially relevant to our MyPAYE customers, where accuracy and dependable processes matter every payday. Making Tax Digital is another area of interest: we want digital record keeping and reporting to feel manageable for businesses and their accountants.
We’re also interested in cyber security, Open Banking and payments, and the standards that help different systems work together. Protecting customer information, reducing repeated data entry and making everyday financial tasks easier are practical improvements that customers can really appreciate.
What are the current challenges within your industry and can BASDA help your company as the voice of industry?
A key challenge is keeping pace with regulatory and technical change while ensuring software remains straightforward and affordable. Customers need clear explanations and enough time to adapt, while developers need stable specifications, realistic implementation periods and opportunities to test thoroughly.
There is also the continuing challenge of protecting sensitive data and connecting systems reliably. We hope BASDA can help by bringing members’ practical experience into discussions with government and other stakeholders, so that the needs of smaller businesses and the people supporting them are heard.
Can you offer any advice to BASDA members?
Keep listening to the people using your software. A short conversation with a customer can reveal a frustrating task or an unclear process that is easy to overlook during development. Make getting started straightforward, explain changes in plain English and make it easy to reach someone who can help.
We’d also encourage members to share experiences and get involved. Discussing common challenges can help everyone improve, and the benefits ultimately reach the businesses that rely on our products.
