Our Member of the Month feature celebrates our members and the work they do. This month we’re taking a look at our member Taxfiler Limited – in conversation with James Reeves, Director.

When did Taxfiler join BASDA?
Why did Taxfiler join BASDA?
It had always been our intention to become a BASDA member. Our founders had previously worked for other software firms who were BASDA members and had always found BASDA events to be useful and informative.
What value do you hope that BASDA can bring to your business?
It helps us to keep in touch with what is happening in the industry, not only in areas of current interest to ourselves and our users but also around broader topics that are likely to impact our clients in the future.
Are there any particular topics that BASDA is championing that you are particularly interested in and why?
As with most vendors who interact with HMRC, Making Tax Digital has been a very important topic in the last couple of years and we have been following its progress keenly.
What are the current challenges within your industry and how is BASDA helping your company as the voice of industry?
As HMRC move forward with initiatives such as Making Tax Digital it is difficult for any single vendor to be heard on issues that would have a major impact on our users. Working together through BASDA makes it possible to influence key decision makers within HMRC and to have a say in the direction and timing of future developments.
Are you an active member of any of BASDA’s Special Interest Groups? If so which one and why?
We try to attend the Accountants in Practice group when we can. The meetings are an opportunity to share experiences and concerns with other vendors and to keep up to date with the latest developments. There are often guest speakers who can provide useful in-depth information on topics of interest.
Can you offer any advice to BASDA members?
Always keep in mind that whatever the challenges you face in your industry, there will be many others, including your competitors, who will have the same concerns. By engaging with them and working together it is possible to have an influence on the future of your industry to better serve the needs of your users.
